O’D&Co worked alongside Development West Coast and regional partners to develop Te Whanaketanga 2050, facilitating the strategy process, strengthening stakeholder relationships and supporting the first stages of implementation.

01

The project

The West Coast needed a long-term economic direction that reflected its communities, recognised its strengths and addressed the changes ahead.

Achieving that required sustained work across different industries, organisations and places. Partners needed opportunities to work through their perspectives, identify shared priorities and build confidence in the strategy and one another.

The process also needed to establish a foundation for cooperation once the strategy was complete.

Our role

Our contribution
  • Stakeholder relationship management
  • Stakeholder and strategy hui
  • Independent facilitation
  • Strategy development
  • Launch support
  • Cross-sector leadership group facilitation
  • Implementation support

We facilitated stakeholder and strategy development hui, helping participants examine the region’s challenges, explore opportunities and agree where collective effort should be focused.

Alongside the hui, we worked extensively on stakeholder relationships. This helped connect the formal strategy process with the discussions and understanding needed to build broad support.

We supported the development and launch of the strategy, then remained involved in its early implementation and rollout. This included facilitating the cross-sector leadership group, helping partners work together as they began progressing the agreed priorities.

03

The outcome

Te Whanaketanga 2050 established a shared economic direction for Te Tai Poutini West Coast, informed by workshops involving more than 150 people, including over 20 rangatahi.

The strategy provided a basis for coordinating regional priorities, investment and advocacy. Early implementation included work on a regional renewable energy strategy.

Our continued involvement supported partners as they moved from agreeing the direction to working together on its delivery.
