O’D&Co worked with Nelson Regional Development Agency and Project Kōkiri partners across engagement, strategy and public campaigns, helping Nelson Tasman respond to COVID-19 and plan for the years ahead.
The project
The pandemic created immediate uncertainty for businesses, workers and communities across Nelson Tasman.
Project Kōkiri brought together councils, iwi, business representatives and government agencies to coordinate the regional response. Alongside urgent support, the region needed to consider its longer-term economic direction and how recovery could contribute to a more resilient economy.
Our role
- Stakeholder engagement
- Facilitation
- Strategy development and writing
- Campaign development
- Communications
- Creative direction
We worked across stakeholder engagement, workshop facilitation, strategy development, communications and creative direction.
This included work on We’ve Got This, Pick Nelson Tasman, Catch a Job and wider Project Kōkiri initiatives. These campaigns gave public expression to regional priorities, encouraging support for local businesses and connecting people with employment opportunities.
We also supported the development of the Nelson Tasman Regeneration Plan, facilitating discussions, bringing together insights and drafting the plan and associated communications. The work connected the immediate response with longer-term priorities for the region.

The outcome
The work produced practical campaigns alongside a shared economic plan for 2021–2031.
The Regeneration Plan established priorities for regional partners and was endorsed by Nelson City Council in August 2022. It gave the collaboration a basis for coordinating economic development beyond the immediate pandemic response. Read the Nelson Tasman Regeneration Plan.
Our contribution helped connect the discussions between regional leaders with communication and activity that businesses and communities could engage with.
